2010 marks a new decade and our school will be enhancing our present programmes or embarking on new ones to further enhance the holistic development of our Anthonians.
For English Language, the STELLAR (Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading) programme will be extended to Primary 4. STELLAR, which has been implemented in phases since 2007 in our school, aims to systematically strengthen language skills as well as encourage a love for reading by using distinctive research-based and age-appropriate teaching methods which are focused on the learner. Through the Shared Book Approach, oral presentations as well as speech and drama, STELLAR provides a greater focus on developing primary pupils’ oracy (listening and speaking skills) so that they are able to communicate more effectively.
Our school is one of the prototype schools for holistic assessment. We will be working with MOE on alternative assessment modes and for a start, our P1 Anthonians will not be having any exams and for our P2 Anthonians, they will be sitting only for the end-of-the-year exam. A wider range of tasks will be given to them throughout the year and more feedback provided for parents. More information will be provided for parents of P1 & 2 Anthonians in due course.
In terms of curriculum innovation, our RISE (Reflect, Inquire, Share and Engaged learning) project is into its 3rd year and we will be consolidating our learnings from the past two years to further enhance the incorporation of 21st century skills for our Anthonians. Presently, this programme is for P3 and 4 Anthonians and we will be looking into how we can incorporate this programme for our P5 Anthonians. We will also be enhancing our Talent Development programmes for those who are talented in aesthetics, academic subjects or sports.
Anthonians will have an exciting year to look forward to and true to our school motto “Crescit Eundo”, we will continue to grow as we advance!
